What could be better than a bank holiday? That’s right a bank holiday that coincides with many marketers dream day – April Fools. Big brands let down their guidelines and give the creatives among us the chance to think freely. Here’s my roundup of the top April Fools pranks I’ve seen today.

Things to learn from TED about YouTube optimisation

TED is the latest creation from Family Guy mastermind Seth Macfarlane. But this isn’t a post about how funny he is, although he IS hilarious!

I’ve been interested in the film since I first saw the trailer and I’ve also been intrigued as to the marketing in the build up to the films release. Let’s take a look at the online marketing lessons we can learn from TED:

Tweets vs Rankings from Branded3

A new study from Branded3 has found that the volume of tweets you receive does impact on where you rank in Google. The data is fresh too -collected this month, using another one of the Branded3 sites Twitition, which offers Twitter users a platform to petition through.

5 of the Best #Usesforwhitespace

With the Google + redesign, came a surprising amount of large white space which lacked content or use for many G+ users. The white space now has become a bit of a cult humour based topic for many geeks (myself included). It has it’s own trending hashtag and has been blogged about by many online sites.

Step forward the Volkswagen Super bowl ad in which a young lad is practising his Star Wars power:

Social Commerce Psychology [infographic]

Social commerce is a big talking point at present, particularly now that brand pages have been released across most social media sites – Facebook, G+ and recently Twitter.

This infographic by tabjuice.com gives us some insight into the consumer buying behaviour for social commerce.

SEO is Marketing isn’t it?

The search engine optimisation (SEO) industry has been growing for some time now. I myself have been an avid marketer for around 6 years and have been involved in SEO for the last 12 months. A constantly recurring theme throughout the last year has been that SEO is an industry all of its own.

Last week saw Search Engine Land announce that they would be launching …

Beware of Google Image Search for Competitions

For those of you using search engines on a daily basis you will be familiar with Google Image Search. Paste in your image URL or upload a picture and Google find visually similar images for you. A great tool particularly if you’re looking to measure coverage or ‘take up’ on any campaigns your brand may have run such as an infographic.

Whilst this tool is undoubtedly useful for marketers, it …
